- Krishnagiri- A Melody in Black Granite
The mountainous terrain of Krishnagiri has been inhabited from the early
pre-historic times and in the heart of this lies natures splendor at
its very best! The peace and tranquility of ancient days, stunning
scenery, rich history, imposing monuments and museums - all add to the
magnetism of this wonderful destination. The pre-historic rock
paintings and other Archeological evidences stand proof to the existence
of human habitats here, even before the dawn of civilization. The place
owes its name to the abundant black granite found in the region.
Krishnagiri has been ruled by many mighty Dynasties, throughout the ages. It serves as a gateway to the district of Tamil Nadu, due to its strategic location. For the same reason the place has many Citadels built on top of hills, originally built to defend the land from invaders. Krishnagiri has also served a prominent place in the wars of Mysore fought against the British. The district also is today one of the finest producers of tasty mangoes in the country.

The Krishnagiri Dam situated at a distance of 7 Km from the town, has
played a significant role in the irrigation scenario of the district.
There are gardens grown with exotic flowers on either side of the dam.
It is a favored picnic spot and attracts tourists in plenty.
Thali, located at a distance of 25 Km from Hosur is a beautiful hilly terrain. The pleasant climate resembling Englands has earned it the title Little England, since the British times. Kelevarapalli Reservoir Project, which was completed in 1995, is situated at a distance of 10 Km from Hosur. Enviable scenic beauty makes this an ideal picnic spot.
The hillock temple of Arulmigu Maragathambigai Chandra Choodeswarar in Hosur on N.H 7 is a famous pilgrimage center. There is an observatory nearby set up by the department of tourism.
Hanumanthathirtham is situated on the banks of Pennaiyar. The water in this place is considered sacred and a large number of devotees throng the area during the Tamil holy month of Aadi.
The Government museum here has a fabulous collection of sculptures and artifacts that displays Krishnagiris glorious tradition and culture. There are also artifacts on display collected from all over the district, which offer a glimpse into Tamil Nadus rich past. The Rajaji Memorial at Thorapalli, where the great leader Rajaji was born, houses various photos and articles associated with his life.
