- About Nagarhole
Located about 94 km from Mysore, Karnataka, Nagarhole is one among the
few natural habitats of Asian elephants. The place was once the hunting
ground of the Mysore kings. The place derives its name from Kannada-
Naga meaning snake and hole meaning streams. Nagarhole is a part of the
Nilgiri Biosphere reserve. The varied habitat and the diversity of
wildlife make it an attractive tourist spot.

Nagarhole National Park :
Nagarhole National Park (Rajiv Gandhi National Park), located 94 km away from Mysore has lush greenery, attractive streams, valleys and waterfalls. The National Park here is an abode for many rare species of animals including tiger, Nilgiri thar, Nilgiri languor, bison, leopard, wild boar, deer, dhole (wild dog), sloth bear, jungle cat, civet, bonnet macaque, and pangolin. The bird species include Malabar pied hornbill, crested hawk eagle, golden- back woodpecker, and southern tree pie. Reptiles like crocodiles, pythons, and several species of snakes and lizards are also found here. Never miss the jeep/elephant safaris, hiking and coracle rides or motorboat rides here.
Kutta is one of the nearest towns (7 km from Nagarhole) to Nagarhole, known for estates of coffee, spices, betel nuts and bananas. This is a small town with a population of about 5000 people. Kutta is very near to Kerala border.
Iruppu falls :
Iruppu or Lakshmana Tirtha falls, located in the Brahmagiri Range is one among the major tourist attractions in Nagarhole.
Rameshwara temple :
Rameshwara Temple, the shrine of Lord Shiva, is located on the banks of the Lakshman Tirtha River. The shrine dedicated to Lord Sri Ram is also a centre of great tourist interest.
Brahmagiri Sanctuary :
The Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Kodagu district. This is a natural habitat of tribes and is well-known for agricultural fields and coffee plantations. Bamboos are cultivated in plenty here. Adventure lovers can go for trekking on Brahmagiri Mountains, with prior permission.
