- Yelagiri- The Best Kept Secret of Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu never disappoints nature lovers. With its fair share of hill
stations and beaches the state exerts an irresistible lure on every type
of traveler. The city of Yelagiri is a classic example to this.
Promising a rollercoaster of emotions and adventures to the eager
globetrotter, the city is the ideal destination to spend a vacation
close to nature.
If waking up to the hypnotic beauty of orchards, rose-gardens and
green valleys is your idea of a perfect holiday, it is not too good an
idea to miss Yelagiri. Basically a cluster of villages surrounded by 4
hills, Yelagiri presents an ambience, free from the cacophony of city
life. Standing proud at a height of 920m above sea level, this
hill-station is home to numerous tribal families. The custom and habits
of these families too play a part in attracting tourists. Boasting a
salubrious climate throughout the year, the city always gives a
red-carpet welcome to its visitors.
- Place of Interest
Adventure looms large at Yelagiri, with its numerous hiking spots. A
trek by the Jalagamparai waterfalls rewards you with stupefying views of
the mountain and the valley. Attaru River falls from a height of 30 m
and the Murugan temple near the waterfall infuses an ethnic charm to the
beauty of this place.
Another trekking hot-spot in Yelagiri is Swami Malai, the highest peak
soaring to 4388 ft, which promises adventurous trekking routes amidst
dense forests. And when you go hiking, dont miss to take a glance at the
gigantic beehives that hang from the trees.
Velavan Temple, dedicated to Lord Muruga, is placed atop a hillock and
is flanked by a huge statue of Gadothgajan in front. If you want to
have a glimpse of the culture of the region, plan your vacation between
July to August. The local festivals are scheduled for this period and
the city wears a vibrant aura during this time.
Kids would love to go boating in the Punganoor Lake- an artificial
